Beauty for Ashes Ministry is a 501(c)3 that was founded in 2009 by Derk and Gina Hanna. This ministry was birthed out of the Gina's personal journey. She experienced firsthand a struggle with a drug addiction that landed her in prison.
In prison, Gina discovered that the state run programs didn't address the root issues of depravity in a way that brought lasting change. She also learned that ex-offenders need a community of support when they return home in order to successfully integrate back into society. This experience sent her on a mission to bring real solutions to these problems.
Since the beginning, Beauty for Ashes Ministry has followed their vision to reduce recidivism by providing Christ centered programs that prepare offenders for reentry by focusing on: inner healing of past wounds, discipleship through the study of God's word, life skills, mentoring and successful home plans that include a community of support. They have built strong relationships with numerous organizations and individuals that work with the offenders once they return home.
In September 2011, Beauty for Ashes Ministry took over an existing reentry program (InnerChange Freedom Initiative) housed in the Women's Eastern Reception Diagnostic Correctional Center in Vandalia, MO and transitioned it into Beauty for Ashes Reentry.
